Cutting back on software expenses? Check out OpenOffice!

November 27, 2008 By: xpertanywhere Category: Software

With the current economy, everyone is looking at ways to cut back.  The good news is that with the holiday season coming up, you can find really great deals on new computers as many vendors have slashed their prices.

The bad news, is that software for your new computer can be pricey.

Almost everyone with a computer needs a good word processor, spreadsheet program, and graphics/presentation program.  The most popular office suite is Microsoft Office, but it can be very pricey.

Many people do not know that a free, open-source alternative to Microsoft Office exists.  It looks and feels very similar to the previous version of Microsoft Office, so if you are used to Office (and if like me, you prefer the old look and feel of the previous version), you’ll love OpenOffice.

OpenOffice is compatible with Microsoft Office, so you’ll be able to open and edit most documents from Microsoft Office (like Word and Excel files), and you can also save files in Office format to send to people using Office.
